This summer, an idea came to light, via a TED Talk by Aditi Gupta, to break down the taboo and shame that many girls live with around menstruation.

We decided to expand our program of distributing moon cycle kits to include an education program, with the help of Menstrupedia comic books. Two of our board members, Danielle (Dristhi) and Elizabeth set off for the village of Pritamgarh, India to visit our school; Sansar Gyaan Pathshala to deliver the kits and spend time with the girls.

Prior to the visit it was important to receive approval and acceptance from Meenakshi, our principal, and the teachers at the school.

The girls were a little shy at first…

They were shown how to use the washable, moon cycle kits.

And we talked more about menstruation with the help of the comic Menstrupedia.

It didn’t take long for the girls to get more comfortable.

Each girl was sent home with the kit and comic, so they could continue the discussion at home with the family. The teachers and principal are available to help assist in the conversations with parents, if needed.

Overall it was a successful visit and we are really pleased with how well the topic was received by everyone. We plan to deliver more moon cycle kits to the next class of girls who are reaching the age of menstruation. If you would like to contribute to our project, please make a donation here. Thank you.
