Our school project vision; uniquely shaped classrooms designed to stay cool in the summer and warm in the winter, surrounded by organic gardens and farmland, next to a river and forest – a perfect learning environment for children.
We are very excited to present the design for the school we will be building in the village of Pittamgarh. It’s been an interesting couple of weeks working with the local architect refining the design, finalizing the budget and determining our building start date, considering the upcoming monsoon season. On a recent visit to the Himalayan Rural Welfare Society a very generous donation of 2 laptops was made! Amit and Naveen were delighted as now they can bring education to those students who cannot make it to the school.
On Sunday, March 4, 2012, we celebrated our third semi-annual Mela at the Anand Prakash Ashram in Rishikesh. This time we had 11 sponsored children and their families, along with Helping Hands for India (HHFI) volunteers and ashram guests to join in the fun. Our second visit to the Himalayan Rural Welfare Society school was a day filled with creativity, inspiration and fun. Rajni-ji, a Helping Hands success story, is now a qualified yoga teacher! Rajni is like family around the ashram. She was living there for the past two years working as an Ayurvedic massage therapist while pursuing her Masters degree in the town of Rishikesh.
