Days for Girls Ottawa Sewing Classes

A local Ottawa high school is holding sewing classes where students can learn valuable skills while giving back to the community. They are providing reusable menstrual kits for young women in need as part of the Days for Girls program. The Ottawa chapter was key in collaborating with us at Helping Hands to bring the kits to our school in India.

In this class are Syrian refugees who came to Canada committed to learning a skill themselves. There is one young man, age 20, at the high school who is working towards his high school degree. Before coming to Canada he was living in a Syrian refugee camp where he was working as a tailor.  He has been proven to very handy in helping to repair the serger machine!

Thank you to the Ottawa community and friends and family of Helping Hands who have made this program a success. We are currently fundraising to send more kits to the school. Please reach out if you have questions or make a donation here >
